Darwinia is a theme park inside a computer network inhabited by 2D computer "spirits" called Darwinians that have all aspects of a society -- they communicate, spawn, and create their own unique society. However the Darwinians are missing one important thing, the ability to defend themselves from attack. Doom is nearly upon them when a nasty computer virus infects their system, threatening their very existence. Your Mission: Destroy the virus and SAVE the Darwinians from extinction!
Darwinia comes in a single DVD-style case on a single CD-Rom. To run Darwinia on Linux, a download is required from www.darwinia.co.uk/support/linux.html?darwinia-full-1.3.0.sh

Darwinia is not like other RTS games. Instead of building up defenses and creating an army, you have control over one battle unit at a time and you must control its every action. You use your single ranged unit to destroy all the enemy units spread across the map. Your units have very basic AI but you must control them yourself for them to be effective at all. The enemy AI is very poor also; their huge numbers are the only challenge they present. The game story line is very weird and graphics are not impressive whatsoever.
I played through the whole game because I paid for it and it did present a few interesting challenges but I would not really recommend it to anyone.

From the unique visual style to the simple but intelligent gameplay, Darwinia will have you hooked. You can blow through the game in eight or 10 hours, but you'll want to linger a bit longer just to see what else there is to do in this virtual world. If you think you've seen everything, give Darwinia a try; at the very least, it's a nice change of pace.
