Globulation 2 brings a new type of gameplay to RTS games. The player chooses the number of units to assign to various tasks, and the units do their best to satisfy the requests. This allows players to manage more units and focus on strategy rather than on micro-management. Globulation 2 also features AI, allowing single-player games or any possible combination of human-computer teams. The game also includes a scripting language for versatile gameplay or tutorials and an integrated map editor. You can play Globulation 2 in single player mode, through your local network, or over the Internet with Ysagoon Online Gaming (YOG).

System Requirements

Review:
Glob2 definitely has a new take on RTS. You get a complete new focus of micro management by not controlling single units but rather giving tasks that the units pick from.
Try it out and spend more than 10 minutes as the first 5 minutes you will definitely waste much time trying to click and command units which is not possible directly. The tutorial is a good entry point for that new approach.
Or take a look at the videos on youtube.

If you are a fan of RTS games, this free game would be worth a try. It is very original and all around satisfying. With no units to micro-manage and no commanding armies of warriors, it's a breeze. The advanced AI of the units is impressive.

This is my favorite Linux RTS that I've found so far. I wish other games of this type employed the same take on helping eliminate micro-management as this one. The computer AI is pretty good and makes a reasonably fun single-player game. I haven't played any other humans online yet. Graphics and sounds are only OK.
The major downside of globulation is that there is only one civilization and it only has 3 types of units. I look forward to more development of this game in the future. It's free, so you can't beat that. I just installed it from ubuntu's package manager:.
