No driver installation required
Comments:
Just went to localhost:631, clicked a few times & voila...printer worked. Took less than a minute. I haven't messed with the scanner yet, though.

Driver instructions:
I had to install CUPS, and pretty much much everything that said "HPLIP" that I could find in synaptic. After that it's all good.
What doesn't work:
It did not work out of the box until I installed drivers.
