Download Youtube Videos With Command Line
Linux has a command-line tool to easily download videos from YouTube creatively called youtube-dl. With this program all you need to do is enter into a terminal youtube-dl and the address of the youtube page containing the video you want. The program saves the video as an .mp4 file for your viewing or editing pleasure. Simply install youtube-dl using your Linux distribution's software manager.
Usage: youtube-dl [video url]
The file will be downloaded to your computer.
Getting this error? ERROR: format not available for video
This means your youtube-dl version is out-of-date. You will need to perform the steps below to update your version.
Open up your favorite command line: Applications > Accessories > Terminal
Enter these commands:
chmod +x youtube-dl
sudo mv youtube-dl /usr/bin/youtube-dl
That's it! Now you can edit the video
