Share Printer Over Local Network (LAN or Wireless) in Ubuntu
Sharing a printer over your home or business network is easy with Ubuntu. This allows any computer in your network to print from your printer, wired or wirelessly (if you have a wireless network).
Requirements: A printer fully-compatible with Linux connected to a Linux computer in your network. Make sure the printer is on and added to your printers.
- Click System > Administration > Printing
- Click Server > Settings
- Check the box "Publish shared printers connected to this system"
- All done!
To allow an Ubuntu system to see shared printers:
- Click System > Administration > Printing
- Click Server > Settings
- Check the box "Show printers shared by other systems"
- Done! After a few moments, any shared printers will automatically appear.
Another option is to go to CUPS administration and check the boxes labeled "Show printers shared by other systems" and "Share printers connected to this system". This method should work on any Linux system (Mint, Debian, OpenSUSE, Slackware, Gentoo, Fedora, etc.).
